Hospital Porthole Murals

Porthole Murals are a great way to liven up any room!
For example: In the cafeteria at Bradley Children’s Hospital, there is an adjacent dining room at the rear of the main cafeteria. This room is long and narrow, with pastel blue walls, and has a single row of tables that stretches 40 feet from end to end. Standing in this room, one has the sensation of being on a ship; this sparked the idea of painting two Porthole Murals, each with a view of the Rhode Island coastline.
The first Porthole Mural features a sailboat in the waters near the Newport Bridge and the Rose Island Lighthouse. The second Porthole Mural features a large sailboat passing a breakwater with Newport in the distance. Both Porthole Murals are meticulously detailed, and the realism imparts a trompe l’oeil effect – even under fluorescent lights. The circular shape of the portholes provide a welcome respite from all the right angles in the room, and the gold and blue adds a much needed splash of color. The Porthole Murals were the perfect choice for the space, and inspire a sense of fun and adventure for the kids at Bradley Children’s Hospital.
